It’s great to be participating, once again, in the Spring Hammond Bay Studio Tour, May 27-28th 2017 along with a number of professional studios in the north end of Nanaimo.
As an active watercolourist working “en plein air” (in the fresh air), I've been busy painting in many locations around the island so there is a chance we've already chatted on some beach in Lantzville, Neck Point or Departure Bay, or, you may have come to my studio on a past tour. Many of my outdoor paintings interpret a strong appreciation of the Pacific, NW environment and character conveying visual power in the landscape.
This year I’ve been working with more ink and watercolour combinations to give more drama. Also, amazing travels this year to China in November and Quebec in February are part of the current selection of paintings to view. Hope you’ll come and see this new work. Oh, and yes, I still have floral paintings for my flower lovers and art cards!
Janice Evans began formal studies at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, School of Art & Design 1970 and continued fine arts studies during her travels as a military spouse, while also completing a BSc. A full-time professional painter, she works mainly in water based media exploring Vancouver Island. Her loose technique aims to capture her emotional reaction to the west coast imagery.
Evans exhibits with the Federation of Canadian Artists Vancouver Gallery on Granville Island, Nanaimo and Arrowsmith Chapters venues, and galleries on Vancouver Island. Janice has also exhibited with the Sooke Fine Art Show and the CNIB Eye Appeal Exhibition.
A strong supporter of community arts, Janice is involved with Plein Air Nanaimo, Coordinator of the Artist-of-the-Month program and participates in the Hammond Bay Studio Tour each year with studios open to the public.
Janice Evans work can be found in private collections in Canada, U.S.A., Europe and Thailand.
