Vida Newington enjoys working in a variety of media and has a fascination with the process of art believing in constantly learning, evolving and experimenting to keep the passion alive. Vida enjoys portraits, landscapes, still life, florals and abstraction. Her inspiration comes from many sources. Although Vida is known for and has worked mostly in water-based media she has been inspired by a recent visit to Paris, France, which further revived her interest in pastels- one of the oldest and most endurable mediums beloved by artists such as Degas. Vida is excited to share some of this new work and her travel sketchbooks on the tour.
As an art major at Cambridge University college, Vida went on to have a career as a teacher in England. On retiring to Canada, Vida completed many studio courses both at Two Rivers University and V.I.U. to refresh her skills. Now a resident of Vancouver Island, Vida continues to share her love of teaching art in the many classes and workshops she teaches locally. Vida is a member of the Canadian Federation of Artists and is a past president of the Nanaimo Art Group and on the current executive for the Nanaimo Federation of Canadian Artists.
